We know that sometimes, we cannot take that step - circumstances prevent it and the truth is when you decide to take the step, you don't need to know everything immediately.   

But if you take the first step, and then the next one, and be consistent until you get to where you want to be...

our big "what the" moment ...

came when we were told our business lease was not going to be renewed.

It was at that point that we realised that we had squandered our lives for one or another tough job for the last 35-40 years, both in the corporate sector and in our own businesses.

We did what everyone else in our era did - we worked hard - thinking that we would be rewarded at the end.     We learned that nobody gets rich from just working hard and you can't count on a great retirement.  

But if we were honest, deep down we knew that we were capable of something more - something that would positively impact others. 

And we did nothing about it - we just worked our butts off till we were hit with the bombshell of no new business lease.

In our industry (we owned a pub), you only make money when you sell the business with a long lease and we no longer had a lease to sell due to a redevelopment of the site.

We had to learn that there was more to our lives than just work and start to live our lives with purpose.    If we were honest, we already knew that we had to make a change and this made it for us.

Banks require security of more than 3 years in the hospitality sector and because we no longer had a lease of significant duration we were forced to pay them back.

We lost our luxury house of 25 years, our two cars, and our superannuation.      This was our wake up call.
